Pepper welcomes your customers
House of Innovation, a co-creation space in the city of Antwerp, wanted an innovative solution to welcome its customers. This solution had to include a brief explanation of their activities and showcase their abilities as an innovation hub. We’ve developed a solution on top of Pepper, the humanoid robot manufactured by Softbank that interprets emotions to welcome the customers at this innovation hub in Antwerp.
What is Pepper capable of?
Pepper can perfectly interpret the most common emotions of customers. The robot can identify a visitor’s emotions of sadness, happiness, anger or surprise by:
- interpreting a customer’s smile
- his or her frowning face
- their tone of voice
- or even (non) verbal language
Pepper hears, speaks, sees, and can detect emotions thanks to cloud services. It perceives its interlocutor’s emotions and analyzes it. The robot is also constantly mapping its environment, to avoid collision with objects or human beings.
How you are welcomed at House of Innovation
During the Proof of Concept, we built several scenarios for the robot. Pepper could welcome guests and explain what House of Innovation can do for his or her company. We’ve also programmed the robot to remember certain recurring visitors, based on facial recognition. New visitors can get a personal welcome message, using a QR-code-scanner. The robot doesn’t just welcome and explain, Pepper is also programmed to take a short quiz with the guest. We gather the data from this quiz by using Pepper as a front-end. The data entered by the visitors can be used for profiling purposes.
“Thanks to Arinti and Pepper, we could welcome our (potential) customers in a complete new way they were not used to experiencing. We are diversifying ourselves from our competitors in a very innovative, yet accessible way.”
